New Gambian Partnership

'New Gambia' is here to stay and GAMSEM wishes to start a New Partnership with entrepreneurial members of the Gambian Diaspora.

What is here envisaged is that young, unemployed people residing in The Gambia will be coached and equipped into exporting strategically selected ethnic food items to Gambian and other African diaspora in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia. Please find below an overview of the export process, products and project objectives.

Products

The New Partnership will focus on two main product types;

Local food products such as:

  • 'Pettete' and cassava leaves, sorrel leaves, 'kren krenn', bitter leaves
  • Bitter tomatoes, kola, bitter-kola
  • Sea food like smoked catfish and 'bonga', 'nettetu'
  • Mangoes, 'kaaba'fruit, baobab fruit

Herbal and cosmetic products such as:

  • Moringa and mango leaves
  • Dried hibiscus flowers (Wonjo)

Project objective

GAMSEM's aim is to create full-time employment for up to 250 people in the short term and up to a thousand in the medium term period of up to three years and finally, up to 5000 workers. For this to be successful the intervention of Diaspora activists both in groups and individuals will be necessary to initially act as guarantors for the safety, reliability and coordination of the activity in every Diasporan region.
