The New Gambia

In January 2017, thanks to the help of not only residing citizens but the steadfastness of the Gambian Diaspora and foreign friends of the country, Gambia was peacefully purged of a kleptocratic autocracy, which had plagued the country for more than two decades. This fresh dispensation is opening up many new opportunities. It is with the realization of this along with the need to tap into the resources of Diasporan vitality before its natural dissipation that GAMSEM wishes to launch the New Partnership with entrepreneurial members of the Gambian Diaspora. This would build on GAMSEM's extensive experience in the export of food products.

The Gambian Economy

The Gambia has a liberal, market-based economy and is a full WTO member. The economy is dominated by agriculture and tourism. The treemap seen here offers an overview of the structure of Gambian exports in 2014.

By supporting cooperatives in Gambia, GAMSEM looks to empower workers in a number of sectors in order to boost broad-based growth and thereby alleviate poverty. Despite producing high-quality goods many sectors of the economy still struggle to sufficiently access markets - GAMSEM aims to fundamentally change this.
