Fisheries in tanji and gunjur

GAMSEM has long supported fisheries in the coastal village of Tanji. As far back as 2006, we disbursed over half a million Dalasi (~ US$22,500) to an association of fisher-folk in Tanji. The disbursement was part of a "Joni-Joni" program (or instant and on-site loan) designed for people active in the artisanal fisheries sub-sector. GAMSEM have also assisted to forge various cooperative partnerships that ensure cheaper procurement of fishing gears, equipment and consumables. Other locations include Bakau, Sanyang and Kemoto.

Women cooperatives

GAMSEM has helped women grow community gardens into functioning cooperatives. Cooperatives contribute to gender equality by increasing women’s access to resources and economic opportunities, which ultimately facilitates transition opportunities to the formal economy.
